Dance Club

Milton Junior School Crest

“To watch us dance is to hear our hearts speak”

At Milton Junior School, our students LOVE to dance! Anything goes in our Dance Club - traditional African dances are mixed with modern and hip-hop with plenty of opportunity for free style moves and new ideas!

There are so many reasons why dance is important to the health and development of our students. We know it keeps their bodies active but did you know it also keeps their brains active too? The body and mind are connected in vital ways - dancing creates a healthy body and a healthy mind!

Dancing can also improve your child’s academic performance as it develops skills such as creativity, communication, critical thinking, and teamwork. Research shows us that movement combinations increase memory, order, and sequencing skills. Learning African dance also develops our students’ appreciation of different traditions and cultures.

We encourage our students to work together on their choreography (making up their own dances). This challenges them to ‘think outside the box’, to use their imagination, to develop the ability to share and critically analyse ideas from others and to solve problems such as complicated footwork or changing musical tempo.

Our Dance Club members always put on a much anticipated performance at our end of term events! If you would like your child to be part of our next performance, contact us for more details. We look forward to welcoming you onto the stage with us!
